Educational Signs Have been placed in appropriate locations. Young -- and older -- can discover new interests, and expand their knowledge of many aspects of Nature.
Bird Boxes Over the years, many volunteers -- including High School Students -- have built and installed Bird Boxes for birds to nest in. This has provided heart-warming insights into bird life. In the Winter, some hardy and highly valued Penokeans clean out the Bird Boxes and renovate them with fresh nesting material for the coming Summer.
A Major Ongoing Activity Various club members volunteer to replenish the bird feeders during the Winter months, in order to help our feathered friends and to attract them to where we can enjoy them. High-quality seed is supplied: if human food is given to birds it is harmful to them. This is carried on only while the Bears are hibernating, as they like bird seed too!
There are also donations of food made by people from the neighborhood. Regrettably, some food is donated during the times that bears are not hibernating: the bears devour the food, and destroy the feeder.
